A miniature house kit is a small room or cottage you build piece by piece – walls, floor, furniture, the tiny cups on the shelf – and then light from inside. A dollhouse kit is the same idea at house scale: several rooms, stairs and a roof. Both are slow, absorbing builds that end as something you look into rather than simply look at.

This guide compares twelve miniature house and dollhouse kits for adults on what their makers publish – scale, part count, build time and lighting – from a two-hour first kit to a twenty-hour forest house.

Build times are the makers’ own figures and first builds usually take longer. Scale is shown where the listing states it.
How we chose
Every kit here is listed on My Cutebee with its published specification. We chose kits that sell steadily on Amazon and cover the main kinds of build – single-room boxes, full multi-room dollhouses, beginner kits and long projects. We have not hands-on tested each kit; the notes describe what the listings state.
Miniature house kit or dollhouse kit?
A miniature house kit (often called a room box) is one scene – a café, a kitchen, a greenhouse – open at the front, usually with lighting and a dust cover. It suits a desk or shelf and a build of a few evenings. A dollhouse kit is a whole building with several rooms; it takes more space and more time, and is often furnished separately. If you are unsure, start with a room box.
What to look for
- Scale. 1:12 is the classic dollhouse scale (one foot becomes one inch); 1:18-1:24 kits are smaller and quicker. Keep furniture and accessories to the same scale – see 1:12 vs 1:24 explained.
- Lighting. Lit kits come alive on a dim shelf; check whether the batteries are included. You can add miniature LED lights to any kit.
- Glue and tools. Most kits need a fine-nozzle craft glue and tweezers – see tools & glue.
- Dust cover. Many room boxes include one; for dollhouses, plan a shelf or case.
- Furniture. Room-box kits include their furniture; many dollhouse shells do not – see dollhouse furniture.

Room-box kits include their furniture as part of the build. Full dollhouse shells vary – check each product page and the furniture range.
