Rokr Cello 3D Wooden Music Box Puzzle winds up into a tabletop cello whose bow starts moving as it plays a piece by Chopin.
Why it is listed here
The cello does more than play a tune: winding it sets the bow in motion, so the movement matches the instrument. It needs no glue and no batteries, and the box includes tools, wax, sandpaper and spare parts, which covers the usual small setbacks of a build. At 199 pieces and about 4.5 hours, it is a manageable single-day project that still has a working mechanism inside.
What the build involves
Use the included wax on the bow linkage and gear contacts so the movement runs smoothly. Sand tight joints lightly rather than forcing them, and reach for the spare parts if a piece breaks. The finished cello is about 9.3 in tall, so give it shelf height as well as width.
