Cutywood Butterfly Piano 3D Wooden Music Box Puzzle builds into an upright wooden piano whose butterfly wings flutter and pink lotus slowly turns as the tune plays.
Why it is listed here
Where a plain music box only plays a tune, this one adds two visible gear-driven motions, the butterfly wings and the rotating lotus. The basswood parts fit together without glue, which keeps the build clean. At about 3 hours it is a single-sitting project, and the built-in metal movement means the finished piece is a working music box.
What the build involves
Set aside one sitting of about 3 hours. The parts are cut to fit snugly without glue, so test-fit each one before pressing it home. Check that the gears turn freely before you finish the outer case, since they drive both the wings and the lotus.
