Music Park Butterfly & Calendar 3D Wooden Puzzle gives you two desk pieces: a music box whose double-layer butterfly wings flutter as it plays “You Are My Sunshine”, and a gear calendar that sets the date, month and weekday through 2050.
Why it is listed here
Most music box kits produce one item, while this set adds a working perpetual calendar, so you get a moving music piece and a practical desk object from one box. The music box needs no batteries, and the calendar gears cover date, month and day of the week up to 2050. Short published build times make it approachable as a first mechanical kit.
What the build involves
Start with the calendar, which the listing puts at about half an hour, to get used to the mortise-and-tenon joints before the music box. Detach pieces from the boards gently and lightly sand rough edges, as the maker suggests. If the wings feel stiff when you turn the crank, a little wax on the moving joints helps.
Before you order
Parts, lighting components and packaging are set by the maker and can change between batches – check the current Amazon listing. My Cutebee is an independent comparison site and is not run by any kit brand; the purchase is completed on Amazon.
