Rowood Magic Piano 3D Wooden Music Box Puzzle recreates a classic grand piano whose keys move on their own while the music plays, wound by a knob at the base.

Why it is listed here

The self-playing keys make it more animated than music boxes that hide their mechanism, since you see the keys at work while the tune plays. Every part carries a label to match against the step-by-step instructions, which helps on a 233-piece build. With spring power and a multi-stage gear drive, it needs no batteries and plays whenever you wind it.

What the build involves

Wax or lightly sand the gear teeth and axle holes if anything binds, so the multi-stage gear set turns smoothly. Match each part by its printed label rather than by shape alone, since small pieces can look similar. Wind the spring gently and stop when you feel firm resistance.
